Former Somali President, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed called on leaders of Puntland and Somaliland states to quell the fighting in Tukaraq town.
Forces loyal to both states engaged in deadly fighting on Thursday leading the displacement of hundreds of families in the area.
In a statement, Ahmed expressed concern about the fresh armed conflict at Tukaraq area last week and urged the two sides to stop the battle unconditionally and come to negotiating table.
The former President described the current conflict in the region as unfortunate, saying such fighting would only cause damage to the civilians.
“I am sad about the ongoing fighting between Puntland and Somaliland in Tukaraq town. I call upon the sides cease the fighting,” said the former President. Both sides blamed the other for starting the violence.
