Kismaayo (Halbeeg News) – Former governor of Puntland’s Nugal region Omar Abdulahi Farole has been appointed mayor and district commissioner of Kismayo in the Jubbaland state of southern Somalia.
In a statement, Jubbaland state leader Ahmed Mohamed Madobe has directed to serve Farole the post, saying he has the competence to execute duties as mayor of the administrative capital of Jubbaland state.
“President Ahmed Mohamed Islaam has appointed Omar Abdullahi Farole as the mayor and the district commissioner of Kismayo. The decision reached after the president discussed with his administration,” the statement reads.
Farole will be the first person from a different regional state serving Kismayo mayorship.
The new Kismayo mayor had preciously served in different positions in Puntland State including the commander of Puntland presidential guards during the era of Abdirahman Mohamed Farole.
He also served as the governor of the Nugaal region in Somalia northeastern regional state, Puntland during the government led by Abdiweli Ali Gaas.
On the other hand, Madobe appointed Bashir Mohamed Baahale Abdiaziz Mohamed Hassan as the Jubbaland Auditor and Accountant General of Jubaland respectively.
