Hundreds of families have been displaced in Elwak town by floods following torrential rains.
The floods swept away properties immense value leading to trail of destruction in the area.
Speaking to the media, Elwak assistant district commissioner, Sahal Moalim said the residents fled their homes after the floods inundated the town.
Moalim said the local people moved to a high ground areas in the outskirts of Elwak town.
The commissioner pointed out that a good number of residents were marooned on the flooded areas of the town.
He noted that several houses have been developed cracks as others collapsed after their foundations were uprooted by the floods.
“In fact there was heavy downpour in the area, people have been displaced and they move to in the outskirt of the town because the town was inundated with flood waters, some houses collapsed as others were submerged,” he said.
The official called for the immediate aid to deal with the humanitarian crisis in the district.
Elwak town is located in Somalia’s Gedo region which shares the border with Kenya.
