The first round of voting by the members of Somalia Parliament concluded a few minutes earlier with no candidates secured the requisite votes to win.
266 lawmakers have casted their votes for the election of parliament speaker.
Sheikh Adan Madobe who earlier declared his candidature to vie for the post has pulled out from the race before the election started.
Below are the votes the candidates attained during the first round of the election.
Mohamed Sheikh Mursal: 83 votes
Ibrahim Isack yarow: 69 votes
Abdiaziz Hassan Lafta-green: 54 votes
Sharif Mohamed Abdalla: 16 votes
Shariif Mohamed Abdalla: 19 votes
Salim Aliyow Ibrow: 7 votes
Mohamud Moalim Yahye: 7 votes
Idris Abdi Takhtar: 3 votes
Iman Abdullahi Ali: 3 votes
Shariif Sheikhuna Maya: 5 votes.
According the procedures, if the candidates failed to secured the required votes 51%, a second round participated by the four top candidates would be announced.
But if the two among the four top candidates announced for the second round, withdraw, the electoral commission skips second round thus they announce the third round automatically.
So far the first deputy speaker, Abdiweli Mudey announced the second round of the elections with the four top candidates who are:
Mohamed Sheikh Mursal: 93 votes
Ibrahim Isack yarow: 69 votes
Abdiaziz Hassan Lafta-green: 54 votes
Shariif Mohamed Abdalla: 19 votes
The election is taking place at the Parliament hall in the capital under a tight security as the main streets of Mogadishu are blocked by government forces due to the elections
