MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi has today opened pre-summit meeting on electoral deadlock at Afisyoni in Somali capital.
The long-waited conference convened Abdi Qoorqoor of Galmudug, Abdiaziz Lafta Gareen (South West), HirShabelle’s Ali Gudlaawe and Banadir Regional Administration Governor Omar Filish.
“H.E @M_Farmaajo chairs a pre-summit meeting ahead of the National Consultative Forum Meeting as he leads the nation towards implementation of Baidoa Technical Committee’s recommendations and the September 17, 2020 Elections agreement ratified by the Federal Somali Parliament,” Villa Somalia said in a twitter post.
The leaders of Puntland and Jubbaland states, Saed Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Madobe as well as leaders of Council of Presidential Candidates who were also in the list of the agenda issued by the government, have not attended the meeting.
The meeting comes barely a day after Somalia’s international partners warned that they will “not support a partial or parallel electoral process or any initiatives leading to extension of prior mandates.”
In a joint statement, the partners urged political leaders of the Horn of Africa nation to reach an agreement to “conduct peaceful, inclusive, free, fair, and credible elections” at the earliest.
The international partners include the African Union Mission in Somalia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, the EU, Finland, France, Germany, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, Ireland, Italy, League of Arab States, the Netherlands, Norway, Qatar, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, UK, US, and the UN.
