DHUSAMAREB (Halbeeg News) – The consultative forum between Somali federal government and its member states have commenced in Dhusamareeb, a town some 400 km (250 miles) away from the capital Mogadishu.
According to Somali government, the leaders will discuss ways to arrive at a final solution for the longstanding difference over electoral process.
The three-day conference brought together president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, leaders of Galmudug, Southwest, Hirshabelle, Puntland and Jubbaland as well as governor of Benadir region.
The meeting which was announced by president Farmajo last week came after international community pressured Somali leaders to iron out their differences at the negotiating table.
Recent months, Puntland and Jubbaland along with opposition leaders have been called on the federal government to withdraw its troops from Gedo region.
The opposition also opposed the electoral commitees, accusing the government of including civil servants and spy agents in the list of the commission.
The country was to hold its elections in 2020 but was called off after differences between the government leaders emerged.
