President Mohamed Farmaajo is scheduled to attend the 29th Arab League Summit which will start on Sunday, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The President and his deliberation have left the country today for Saudi Arabia’s Dammam town which is hosting the Summit.
Abdinur Mohamed Ahmed, Villa Somalia communications director said the President will address the Summit over Somalia’s situation.
“President Farmajo will be delivering speech at the conference, During his stay, the president will also hold talks with other leaders at the Summit,” said Ahmed.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-jubeir said the top agenda of the Summit which will convene by heads of state is the situations of Palestinians.
Al-Jubeir had lambasted US decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem town saying the move will hamper the international efforts to end Arab-Israel conflict in Middle East.
“We extend our support to the Palestinians’ right to establish their homeland based on the 1967 lines with the capital city Jerusalem, as stated in the international resolutions and the Arab peace initiative,” Al Jubeir said during preliminary meeting on Friday.
In sideline of the conference, Somalia is expected to hold meeting with the state members of the league over the infringement of United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Somali sovereignty.
Somali government last month launched complaint with the League over UAE’s controversial Berbera deal with Somaliland and Ethiopia.
The country urged the leadership of Arab League to intervene in situation.
In a letter addressed to the Arab Organization, Somali government reiterated its position of not being a party of the so called tripartite agreement between Somaliland, Ethiopia and Dubai’s port operator, DP World Company.
The diplomatic relations between the two countries have been deteriorating since when the Arabian Peninsula nation declare its plans to construct military in Berbera town without consent of the Federal Government of Somalia.
Abu Dhabi is accused of interfering Somalia’s internal affairs and trying to destabilize the country.
Last week, UAE sent 9.6 million USD to Somalia a time the country was struggling to ease the escalating political Crisis within the members of Lower House.
The critics of UAE and several politicians termed Dubai’s move as blatant aggression to fuel the political tension.
The money was seized by Somali security officials and was deposited at Central Bank in pending an investigation.
