MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and his prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble have separately condemned today’s suicide bomb attack near Villa Somalia.
In a statement, President Farmaajo has extended condolences to families of the victims killed in sucide bomb explosion at a security checkpoint in El-Gab vicinity near the presidential palace in the Somali capital.
The checkpoint falls on the route to the airport in Mogadishu, used by Somalia’s president and prime minister.
According to Abdifatah Aden Hassan, the Somali police spokesman, the blast claimed lives of seven people.
“We know that seven people were killed and nine others injured in the blast,” he said.
Among those killed in the attack are a mother, her two children and Hibak Abukar who worked at the office of Somali PM.
PM Roble has also wished quick foe those wounded in the attack.
“I condemn the heinous terror attack. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and may God heal the injuries,” the PM said in atwitter post.
In a brief statement, the group confirmed it was behind the bombing.
“The mujahideen carried [out] a martyrdom operation targeting the main security checkpoint of the presidential palace,” it said.
