MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government agencies will not strike deals with international organizations, institutions and international companies until after elections, a decree by president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo announced.
The horn of Africa nation is expected hold its parliamentary and presidential elections.
“Until after the elections, all Ministries and government agencies are prohibited from entering agreements or talks on behalf of the Federal Government of Somalia that affect the future, sovereignty, the land and the sea of our country. Until after the elections, ALL new trade agreements with other countries remain suspended,” the decree reads in part.
The term of Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi and the parliament February this year and December last year respectively.
The country’s election was delayed several times after the political stakeholders disagreed over the electoral process.
In past two weeks, Jubbaland and Southwest states have started the senatorial elections.
So far, nine senators from the two states. Among the elect senators are two senators.
