MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Parents and ministry for education have held a farewell ceremony for 124 students who were awarded scholarships from the government of Sudan.
The event which was held in Mogadishu was attended by officials from the ministry and different schools and lawmakers.
While addressing the participants, Ismail Yussuf, advisor to the ministry of education urged students to make use of their opportunities while studying in Sudan.
“We urge you to use of this opportunity offered to you. We believe the future of Somalia is bright, youth represents the future of Somalia, we hope after you finish in Sudan, you can make use of what you learned to serve the reconstruction and development of your country,” Mr. Yussuf said.
The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ahmed Yussuf Hassan said the selection procedure of the students awarded with the scholarship was fair, adding that the selected students were those with high marks from National examinations.
A lawmaker, Yussuf Hayle recounted the importance of the friendly relations between Sudan and Somalia saying Sudan had played a very important role in rebuilding Somalia’s education system.
“Sudan offered education to our children. We are thankful for their support. We hope our relationship with Sudan will keep improving,” MP Hayle said.
More than 2000 Somali students are now pursuing different faculties in different universities in Sudan and most of them are said to have been offered scholarships.
