MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The family of the late former Somali prime minister, Ali Khalif Galaydh has confirmed the leader died of coronavirus.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the widow of Galaydh, Mariam Abdi Bihi said a second autopsy conducted by Somali government confirmed Galaydh was killed by coronavirus.
“We thanked Somali government for its commitment to make sure the cause of Ali Khalif Galaydh’s death, it is now clear that he died of COVID19 as the result of test did by Somali government,” she said.
Maryam rubbished claims that the former prime minister was assassinated.
“We and clan elders are satisfied with the results done in Mogadishu, We are deeply concern and refute the speculations over the ex-premier’s death,” she said.
Last week, a relative of former Somali PM Galaydh who died last Thursday called for independent investigation into the death of leader casting suspicion over what what authorities said earlier.
Mukhtar Hamid, a relative of Galaydh told BBC Somali that the family has no confidence on the autopsy did by Ethio-Somali region authorities.
He ruled out the investigation to be done in Jigjiga town where he died saying venue would be decided by the family.
Late Galaydh who arrived in Jigjigo town late last Month was rushed to hospital a week ago after he complained breathing difficulties.
Galaydh served as prime minster of the Horn of Africa nation between October 2000 and 2001.
