Dozens of families displaced from the clashes between Al-shabab fighters and the local people in Aad village in Harar Dhere town reached Hobyo district, officials confirmed.
The displaced people are women, children and elderly people.
Abdullahi Ahmed Ali, the district commissioner of Hobyo district told the media that at least 1000 people who fled from the clashes between al-shabab and local people in the some villages near Harar Dheere town reached Hobyo.
Ahmed said the displaced people have no shelter, food and other essentials in their lives.
“These are vulnerable people, their number is now close to 1000 people and they are coming. They have no shelter, food and water” said Ahmed.
The villagers fled from fighting between the local people and Al-shabab fighters that continued for two days in Aad village under Harardheere town of Mudug region.
The clashes embarked after the parents challenged the intensions of Al-shabab to recruit their children as fighters.
According to a villager who spoke to VOA Somali service, Al-shabab fighters met with elders in the area and asked help for their recruitment efforts in the area.
“The fighting came after they demanded that we provide young children to fight alongside them,” said the villager who remained anonymous.
