ADDIS ABABA ( Halbeeg News) – Ethiopia’s National Security Council said the federal and regional security institutions will take all the necessary, legal and proportionate measures to restore order.
The statement follows act after violence was experienced in some parts of the country particularly in the Oromo administrative zone in the Amhara regional state as well as in north Shoa zone.
According to official news agency FANA, the council said the loss of life and the damages caused to property in Kemissie, the administrative centre of the Oromo zone, and its environs is unacceptable.
The National Security Council meeting also sent condolences while ensuring the rule of law and the wellbeing of citizens as the responsibility of the government.
The meeting instructed federal and regional security institutions to take the necessary, legal and proportionate measures to stabilise the areas and protect residents.
According to the statement, a team composed of members drawn from the federal and regional institutions has been dispatched to the areas in order to investigate the cause of the instability and bring instigators to justice.
The council also called on mainstream and social media to refrain from disseminating erroneous information that instigates conflict.
Meanwhile, members of the National Defense Force were deployed in both the Oromo administrative and north Shoa zones in the Amhara regional state to restore order.
Colonel Tesfaye Ayalew, office head of the National Defense Force’s Vice Chief of Staff, told FBC today that the security forces are conducting operations.
