The new Prime Minister of Ethiopia , Dr. Abiye Ahmed will make his first visit to Ethipia’s Somali region on Saturday.
Ahmed is expected arrive Jigjiga town early today where he will be received by regional leaders led by President, Abdi Mohamud.
The prime minister and the leaders of Ethiopia’s Somali regional government are scheduled to hold talks over the recent Somali and Oromo clashes which claimed lives of hundreds from both communities.
Dr. Ahmed is also expected to pay his peace tour to Oromo regional government, a move intended to establish a lasting peace between the hostile communities.
The conflicts of the two sides dates back in 2004 when thousands of Somalis fled their homes after referendum to decide the fate of 420 kebeles (villages) voted for Oromia Government rule the areas.
The decision has not yet been materialized since there was conflict between the sides.
The fighting has sparked again in December 2016 following dispute over the same areas.
The clashes between the sides claimed the lives of over 200 people.
