JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) – Ethiopian troops entered Dire Dawa town in an apparent attempt by central authorities to quell the unrest spreading Ethiopia’s eastern Somali region.
Mobs looted shops and burned down properties in several towns of the state for the last two days.
Thr unrest gained momentum and spread across the province following deployment of soldiers in the administrative capital, Jigjiga.
Hundreds of military soldiers were on Sunday deployed in Dire Dawe town after group hailing from Somali and Oromo people clashed in the town.
According to residents who spoke to BBC Somali Service, the clashes claimed lives 14 people majority being Somali locals.
The clashes are reminiscent of Saturday’s riot that broke out in Jigjiga town after Ethiopian troops entered the town and took over the control of the government installations.
