ADDIS–ABABA (Halbeeg News) – Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed is expected to meet over 100 delegates hailing Ethiopia’s Somali regional state barely three days after the region elected a new leader.
Reports say a host of affluent personalities from the Somali region’s expat communities around the world and elders from the region convened in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis-Abab to attend the meeting.
According to sources to privy to the development, the talks which are scheduled to take place at Millennium Hall in the capital city will kick off on Friday.
As per the organisers of the conference, the sides will discuss a wide range of issues including the stabilisation of the Somali region and means to quell the tensions between Somali and Oromo communities.
A day after Ethiopian-Somali People’s Democratic Party (ESPDP)’s executive committee elected Mustafa Muhumed Omer to be acting president, he pledged to put more efforts to end the clashes between Somali and Oromo communities.
The clashes displace thousands of residents living alongside Oromo-Somali border.
Both Oromos and Somalis have called on the federal government to rein in armed groups and restore law and order, underscoring the need for regional and federal authorities to work together to address the ongoing violence.
