Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has on Thursday resigned from his position as prime minister and chairmanship of the ruling party EPRDF, the state news agency reports.
Ethiopian News Agency reported that PM Desalegn has submitted his resignation letter to the chairman of the ruling party EPRDF hoping that the leaders will accept his acquiescence.
“He said that he decided to resign from both posts to be part of the efforts to provide lasting solution to the current situation.”
Hailemariam came to power on September 21, 2012 succeeding former Ethiopian PM Meles Zenawi who died August 2012.
The reason behind his resignation is not yet clear.
