ASMARA (Halbeeg News) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiye Ahmed has arrived in Asab town, Ethiopian State Media reported Tuesday.
Mr. Ahmed and his entourage have returned from China where he attended 7th summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), held in Beijing on September 3 and 4.
Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FANA) has reported the Ethiopian Premier was welcomed by Eritrean President Isaias Afworki.
The Prime Minister visited the port and the 71km long road which stretches from the Ethiopian border to the port.
He is also expected to visit the port of Massawa this afternoon.
This would be the first time Ethiopian leader visit an Eritrean port city since 1998 when a deadly gun battle between the two countries.
Last July, the two horn of Africa nations inked peace agreement to end hostility between the nations.
The deal led the two countries to regularize their ties with the opening of embassies, free travel of people.
