Addis Ababa (Halbeeg)- Ethiopian government wants to drop three rebels from the list of terror groups, an important step to end the rebellion in Ethiopia.
Since April when Prime Minister Abiye assumed office, the government has been carrying out reforms to end violence in Africa’s second most populous nation and one of its fastest-growing economies.
Prime Minister Aby’s Chief of Staff, Fitsuma Arega said the government of Ethiopia on Saturday submitted to Ethiopian Parliament a resolution seeking to end designation of three groups as terror organisations.
“Pursuant to Proc. 652/2009, Cabinet has submitted a resolution to Parliament for ratification that will rescind the designation of OLF, ONLF & Ginbot 7 as terrorist groups,” said Mr. Fitsuma.
Mr. Fitsuma termed the decision as important one for peaceful political Arena.
“The decision will encourage groups to use peaceful political discourse to achieve political ends,” he stated.

The move comes less than a week after Ginbot 7, Ethiopian rebel group has suspended its armed resistance against the government of Ethiopia.
The group which is based in neighbouring Eritrea had been designated a terrorist organisation by previous governments.
Ginbot 7 secretary-general, Andargachew Tsege, who sentenced to death for allegedly plotting a coup was pardoned by the government of Prime Minister Abiye.
Ginbot 7 said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s reforms had given it hope that “genuine democracy” may be “a real possibility”.
The ruling coalition picked Abiye early this year to replace Hailemariam Desalegn, who quit to clear the way for reforms in Ethiopia.
After taking the oath of office, the former army lieutenant general struck a conciliatory tone towards the opposition and pledged to end the inequality.
