ADDIS ABABA (Halbeeg News) – The Ethiopian government has claimed to have killed around 462 Al-Shabaab members following clashes with its soldiers in Somalia.
According to Ethiopian Defense Forces (ENDF) news statement, the fighters were killed in Rabdhure town in southeastern Somalia after attempting to attack an ENDF unit stationed there.
The ENDF disclosed the al-Shabaab group had tried to use 12 suicide bombers and three explosives-laden vehicles in the failed attack.
Meanwhile al-Shabaab las week claimed 167 Ethiopian troops in an ambush attack in Somalia’s southwestern Bakool region, a moved dispelled by Ethiopian forces.
Ethiopia’s ambassador to Somalia, Mukhtar Mohamed Waare described the group’s claim as false and baseless.
“They can try to attack the Ethiopian army, but they cannot engage in a fight with the Ethiopian defence forces for even 10 minutes. This army is highly professional, well-equipped, and organized. Whenever they confront the enemy, they deliver a decisive blow. Therefore, this is nothing more than propaganda against Ethiopia and the Ethiopian defence forces,” Ambassador Waare said.
The Ethiopian army has previously foiled multiple Al-Shabaab attempts to infiltrate eastern Ethiopia to carry out cross-border attacks, read the statement.
