Addis Ababa (Halbeeg) The security agencies in Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa arrested 30 people in connection with Saturday’s deadly bomb blast at the rally.
The bomb went off shortly after Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed concluded his speech during the solidarity rally held at Meskel Square.
Ethiopian Police Commissioner, Zeynu Jemal said the security agencies nabbed 30 prime suspects of the attack in Addis Ababa.
He noted the police officers launched an investigation into the cases of the suspected who apprehended following security operation conducted the Federal Police.
30 suspects were being taken into Police custody. They are suspected of involvement in the attack,” Jemal told the state-owned Media, Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).
According to the commissioner, among those detained are nine senior police officials for laxity and for failing to thwart the attack.
“We arrested senior police officials among them is Addis Ababa Deputy police Commissioner Girma Kassa for failing to detect the plot to carry out the attack,” said Jemal.
Second victim dies
The bomb blast on Saturday wounded 150 people, according to the figures presented the Ethiopian Ministry for Health.
Amir Aman, the country’s minister for Health has confirmed the death of the second victim who succumbed to injuries he sustained from the blast.
“I’m sorry to learn that we have lost another Ethiopian victim of yesterday’s (Saturday) attack who ICU (Internal Care Unit) at Black Hospital,” he wrote on his Twitter account on Sunday.
The minister extended his condolences to the family and friends of Merkel attack.
” My sincere sympathy and condolences to family, friends and all Ethiopians,” Aman consoled.
