JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) – The Acting president of Ethiopia’s Somali region, Mustaf Muhumed Omer has proposed the stated to resign its flag barely a day after he was appointed.
On Wednesday, Ethiopian-Somali People’s Democratic Party (ESPDP)’s executive committee elected Mustafa Muhumed Omer to be acting president in its meeting.
In his first statement, Mr. Omer stated that the region will mull to reused its previous flag.

The current flag of the state which is a green-white-dark red horizontal tricolour with a yellow triangle defaced with a tan camel in the centre, was adopted October 2008.
The flag was designed when the previous president of the State, Abdullahi Hassan, was dismissed and the new administration of Daud Mohammed Ali (Daa’uud Maxamed Cali) was installed by the government led by Males Zanawi.
The previous flag was a green-white-dark red horizontal tricolour with a light blue triangle at the hoist charged by a white star.

The new leader also said the government of the region will also change its current: Dowlada Deegaanka Somalida Itoobiya (Somali Regional State of Ethiopia) to Somali State.
Mr. Omer, 45 will lead the Somali region until the next party congress 2020.
He had served as a humanitarian liaison officer for the United Nations in Mogadishu, Zimbabwe, the United Arab Emirates and Kenya. Prior to that, he held different positions in the Somali region until he was forced to flee by the ousted leader.
Mr. Omer will be replacing Mr. Ahmed Abdi Mohamed “Ilkacase” who has been leading the region for the past two weeks.
Ilkacase had replaced the once-powerful president Abdi Mohamoud Omar who was forced to step down after the intervention of the federal army.
