JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) – Somali regional State in Ethiopia has for the first time launched a laboratory facility for COVID 19 virus testing.
The lab which located in the Jijiga University, in Somali regional state will have the capacity to test hundreds of samples per day as per the plan.
In a Saturday ceremony attended by the region’s acting president, Mustafa Mohammed Omar, the officials said the state will no longer wait results of COVID19 samples from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.
Previously, the state used to send COVID19 testing samples to the capital and used to take days to get the result.
According to the State-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC), the facility could test up to 240 samples per day.
As of April 12, cases in Ethiopia had reached 69 according to Health Minister Lia Tadesse’s updates.
The number of new cases were four, three of whom had travel history.
54 patients remain in treatment whiles recoveries have reached 10. The country recorded three deaths.
