ASMARA( Halbeeg)- Eritrea has appointed its first ambassador to Ethiopia after more than twenty years, Eritrean information minister confirmed.
The current education minister of Eritrea, Semere Russom was named as the new ambassador to Addis Ababa.
This new development comes days after Ethiopia has appointed its new ambassador to Asmara after more two decades of hostilities.
Redwan Hussein former Ethiopian ambassador to Ireland, was named to become Addis Ababa’s representative in Asmara.
Since signing agreement on early July in Eritrea’s capital, Asmara to restore the ties between the two countries, the leaders made long strides to end the hostilities in the Horn Africa countries.
Eritrea seceded from Ethiopia in 1993. And from 1998 – 2000 the two fought a bloody war in which an estimated 70,000 – 80,000 people perished.
Eritrea officially opened its embassy in Addis-Ababa. The embassy was inaugurated in Addis Ababa on the last day of Eritrean President, Isaias Afeworki’s three-day visit to Ethiopia.
