MANDERA (Halbeeg News)-The Kenyan National Assembly Majority leader, Aden Duale said the Kenya-Somalia security border wall was a shoddy project aimed at siphoning public funds.
Aden Duale said Sh3.9 billion meant for the project had been embezzled hence the buying of substandard materials and shoddy work in the wall’s construction.
The leaders threatened to re-table the motion because the country was losing millions through corruption in the project.
Mandera East MP Omar Sala had filed a motion in parliament challenging the quality of materials used for the construction of the wall.
Security wall was meant to seal porous border points besides curbing al -Shabaab attacks. It is supposed to run from Mandera border point one to Kiunga in Lamu county.
It is being constructed by a government multi-agency group led by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).
The leaders spoke on Saturday in Mandera during a fundraiser for the building of Madrassa at the Aflax Islamic Centre in Khalalio.
Armed group al-Shabaab carried out a wave of attacks inside Kenyan soil mainly at the border areas in retaliation for the presence of Kenyan troops inside southern Somalia since 2011.
