Kenya’s Parliament majority leader, Adan Barre Duale has reiterated his call for International Community to take action against United Arab Emirates (UAE) for infringing on Somalia’s sovereignty.
Duale warned the violations of the Arabian Peninsula nation would destabilize Somalia which is slowly recovering from two decades of civil war.
In a post on his Twitter account, the leader urged Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), International Community and African Union (AU) to intervene the situation.
“UAE dollars will ultimately destabilize Somalia and subsequently the Horn of Africa. IGAD, AU and International Community must act & act now,” said Duale.
Last week, Duale lambasted the blatant interference of the UAE saying “What is going on in Somalia is proxy war led by UAE mercenaries to undermine the sovereignty, legitimate government and institutions”
The move comes just hours after Somali security intercepted a large sum of money from United Arab Emirates.
The money which was packed into three suitcases was put in storage in Central Bank of Somalia while investigation is underway.
According to VOA Somali, the ambassador of UAE Mohamed Ahmed Othman said the money was not intended for the UAE embassy.
“The money is for the ministry for Defense. It is meant to pay the salary of Somali soldiers,” said Othman.
The sentiments of the ambassador was dismissed by some of the officials of Somali forces saying “The salary of the army is less than $1 million but the mount of the money imported is much more than what UAE claims”
