DJIBOUTI ( Halbeeg News) – The Republic of Djibouti will officially launch its bid for United Nations Security Council seat in December.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the event which will be conducted on 5th December in New York.
The tiny strategic horn of Africa state is facing a stiff challenge from Kenya on the 2021-2022 candidature for United Nations security council non-permanent seat.
Djibouti has embarked on an official campaign to woo representatives of UN member states in its quest to secure the significant non-permanent position.
The country is campaigning under the banner ‘ a vote for Djibouti is a vote for Africa’ and “your global partner for peace.
Nairobi launched its campaign on November 7th in New York.
In August, the AU endorsed Kenya for the seat after it defeated Djibouti with 37 votes against 13.
However, after initially conceding defeat the Horn of Africa country turned rescinded its earlier decision to respect the AU’s vote endorsing Kenya’s candidature for the UN Security Council seat.
Djibouti announced will continue to vie for the non-permanent seat, by taking the campaign directly to the UN member states.
