DJIBOUTI ( Halbeeg News) – Djibouti President, Ismail Omar Guelleh on Friday held meeting with the head of the Pentagon’s Africa Command.
According to Djibouti’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), President Guelleh and Command chief Gen. Thomas Waldhauser discussed the strong, cooperative relationship that exists between Djibouti and the United States.
They also security of the region by focused on the effort to fight terror groups such as al Shabaab and the Islamic State.
“The US and Djibouti relationship ensures a safer and more secure Africa, which benefits individuals living in Africa and the international community as a whole,” Gen. Waldhauser said.
The Pentagon has plans to reduce the number of American counterterrorism forces in Somalia, and across Africa, by 10% over the next three years.
US drones have been recent years carrying out attacks targeting al-Shabaab and ISIS fighters in South and northern Somalia.
