JEDDAH (Halbeeg News) – Leaders of Djibouti and Eritrea are expected to ink peace deal to end hostilities between the countries.
Late last Month, the Foreign Ministers of both countries met in Djibouti part of a regional bid to soothe tensions between the neighbours.
According to sources, Presidents of Djibouti and Eritrea, Ismail Omar Guelleh and Isaias Afwerki respectively are in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia following official-invitations by Saudi authorities.
The two leaders are expected signed peace agreement at a ceremony hosted by King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The two small Horn of Africa nations have been at loggerheads for decades over the disputed border area of Doumeira Island, and clashes erupted in 2008.
The tiny Dumeira Island lies just off the coast of the two countries, at the southern end of the Red Sea. It is close to the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, an important shipping lane for global commerce
Qatar brokered a peace deal in 2010 but relations have remained strained.
