Djibouti (Halbeeg) Djibouti is marking its 41 years of self-rule after gaining independence from France.
The national fete, led by President Ismail Omar Guileh was held in the capital Djibouti while regional celebrations will be held in the other regions of the tiny nation in the Horn of Africa.

One of the biggest celebrations of 27th June occurred at the presidential palace where government officials, hundreds of residents, people from diaspora including boys and girls dressed in clothes painted national flag and singers have joyfully attended the well-beautified ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Djibouti President congratulated people of Djibouti on the Independence day.
To get Freedom is a great thing but the Independence would be crucial when those achieved Independence work on the importance and development of their country. Many people had struggled for the Independence we exercise today, we have to continue our target,” said Gueleh.

Among those attended last night’s ceremony is Somali Lower House Speaker, Mohamed Mursal Sheikh who is on Duty tour in Djibouti.
France which had colonized the named it French Somaliland when the French forces occupied during the scramble for Africa.
On 27th June 1977 when Djibouti gained independence from France, the freedom leaders change the name the country’s name to Djibouti.
