COPENHAGEN (HALBEEG NEWS) The government of Denmark has recognized Somali diplomatic passport after more two decade following the fall of Somalia’s central government in 1991.
Somalia’s minister of internal security, Mohamed Abukar Islow who has been in an official visit to Denmark has held meeting with officials from foreign ministry, immigration minister and other officials from Denmark’s ministry of African affairs.
Minister Islow briefed the officials on the successes of Somali government on security, good governance, travel documents, justice and the fight against corruption embezzlement.
The minister also thanked Denmark for its efforts to support the government and the people of Somalia.
The leaders of the two countries agreed on the areas of security and migration, and the government of Denmark has officially established to recognize Somali passport starting with the diplomatic one.
Finally, the government of Denmark pledged to build a center where the security and the quality of the passports will be checked.
Denmark becomes the second Scandinavian country to announce it will recognize Somali passport in less than six months.
Early July, the government of Norway has said it will soon recognize the Somali passport “thanks to the close cooperation between Norwegian and Somali immigration authorities”.
The Norwegian embassy in Somalia said in a tweet that the Scandinavian country will recognize the Somali passport from 1 August 2018.
“Thanks to close cooperation between Norwegian and Somali Immigration Authorities, Norway will recognize Somali passports from 1stAugust 2018. These include diplomatic, service and ordinary passports issued by Immigration and Naturalization Directorate of Somalia,” the embassy announced.
