MOGADISHU (Halbeeg)- A high Qatari delegation led by the country’s head of ports on Tuesday arrived in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The delegates were welcomed at the Adan Adde International Airport by officials from Somali government.
They held meeting with Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire at his office.
Somalia’s minister for ports Maryan Aweys has also attended the meeting.
The sides focused on wide range of issues including the relations between the two countries, means to develop the ports in Somalia.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ms. Aweys said the delegates from Qatar come for assessment on the country’s ports.
“Today, We have received delegates from Qatar, the purpose of the trip was to assess and visit some of the ports in Somalia,” she said.
The minister noted the government Qatar will implement projects to develop the ports in Somalia.
“They are going to visit the ports and launch development projects. This is a way to create jobs for Somali people and we hope it will boost the economy,” she told the reporters.
Sources say during their stay in Somalia, the delegates will visit Baravo, Adalle and Hobyo ports.
