MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Assailant who allegedly killed four people on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam was a man hailing from Somalia, reliable sources confirmed Thursday.
Hamza Hassan Mohamed, 30-year-old man whose records indicate he was born on November 17, 1991 killed three police officers and a private security guard on a rampage through a diplomatic quarter of Tanzania’s main city Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, before being shot dead while holed up in a guardhouse at the French embassy’s gate.
It was not immediately clear if his target was the French embassy which is located near the scene of the incident.
Mohamed was said to have said to travelled to Somalia some years back, making to be under the radar of the police in recent years.
“He had been tracked and watched by police here for sometime and may have decided to bring the surveillance to an end,” the source said.
According to a business card seen by Halbeeg News, Mohamed was running a small shop in the town.
Sources who known Mohamed well had told the media in condition of anonymity that the brother of the assailant was an al-Shabaab fighter in Somalia and was later killed in an area near Elbur town of Galgaduud region.
Mohamed’s two brothers and mother reportedly arrested by security forces in a town on the border between Tanzania and Zambia where they had been living.
