LAMU (Halbeeg News) – A military court in Mogadishu on Sunday sentenced three police officers to jail terms for the torture of a victim and dissemination of a video on the internet.
According to a court statement, one of the convicts who ws identified as Mohamed Ahmed Mohamud, also known as Arab was found guilty of beating a former disabled soldier at the police traffic department headquarters in Mogadishu. Arab sentenced to three years in prison.
The other two who were identified as Ahmed Hassan Adawe, the head of the CCTV camera department at the office, and Abdullahi Abukar Arif were found guilty of sharing the CCTV footage with social media influencers.
According to a statement from the armed forces court, the soldiers could share the footage with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Prosecution, which would have been the appropriate course of action. However, they chose to humiliate the traffic police department instead.
The two sentenced to the three years jail term. The convicst have a month to appeal against the sentence.
