JIGJIGA (Halbeeg News) The executive and council members of ESPDP named a new acting president to lead Ethiopia’s Somali regional state.
Mustafa Muhumed Omar was picked as the new president of the regional state Ahmed Abdi Mohamed who was holding the office since the former president, Abdi Mohamud Omar resigned after violence erupted in the region.
The new president, Mustafa Muhumed will hold the office until 2020 when the next presidential elections are expected to be held.
Mustafa, an economist, was a critic against the human rights abuses meted against the people by the former government of Abdi Mohamud Omar.
He was born in Degahbour town of Somali regional state.
Early August 2018, the president of Somalia’s Somali region, Abdi Mohamud Omar has resigned following widespread violence that claimed the lives of over 20 people in the region particularly Jigjiga, the capital of the state.
Ahmed Abdi Mohamed, the finance minister of the state was picked as the new president to serve the position on acting basis.
