Joint Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Constitutional review and Implementation has dispelled the remarks of the first deputy speaker of the Lower House over the altered draft of constitution.

In a press statement, the committee said the Provisional Constitution adopted by the 9th Parliament in 2012 was the supreme law.

The committee expressed concern over the document distributed by Mudey, saying it was causing confusion among Somali people.
“We have seen circulating constitution alleged to be the genuine one, it was distributed to the House of People on 25th April 2018 as a draft constitution and was amended by the elders and the technical committee.” reads the statement.
The statement urged the president to guard the provisional constitution of Somalia.
“Therefore, article 87 (1) of the Provisional constitution grants the president the authority to guard and promote the constitution,” the committee noted
