Somali Federal government and Regional Information Ministries have concluded four-day conference on Media Communication Strategy in Garowe town.
The conference which kicked off on Wednesday in Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland had convened officials from the Federal Government, Ministers from regional states, directors of Radio and TV stations across the country.
In a communiqué issued on the Saturday says the committee will work on creation of harmony and trust between the media and public.
“The participants jointly agreed on the formation of Public Awareness and sensitization Committee which will be drawn from national and regional levels,” reads the communiqué in part.
The committee will also be tasked for the preparation or charting out of plan of Media Communication Strategy.
During the conference, the attendees called on the different media houses in the country to abide by the ethics and regulations so as to steer to the country towards the stabilization process.
“The sides have urged all media centers in the country to observe the media ethics. The participants discussed on this topic well as they also jointly agreed on several points to be implemented before the endorsement of the Media Law,” said the conference.
The ministers and other officials have agreed on the establishment of programmes related to building of trust and reconciliation.
“The sides accepted to expand the Radio Programmes which focus on stabilization, formation council of areas and reconciliation. The programmes will be aired be all the state owned media apart from Puntland state which formed its council members,” it articulated.
The conference was organized by the Federal Ministry of Information and hosted by Puntland Ministry information.
The forum was attended by the acting information minister of federal , Abdirahman Idan Yonis, Information Minister of Puntland, Jubbaland, Southwest, Hirshabelle Galmudug states and officials from Benadir Region.
Others were officials from Federal Parliamentary committee for Information, Media and Public Awareness and officials media watchdogs
