GALKACYO (Halbeeg News) – The Commander of combined security forces in Galkayo Khalif Nur Shil has this morning succumbed to his injuries following an attack by unidentified gunmen last night.
Late Shil was leaving mosque for home when he was attacked by three men armed with pistols, according to witnesses.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he had been undergoing treatment since this morning when his condition deteriorated and died.
In its online affiliate media, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the killing of the commander.
According to residents, the security forces in Galkayo town have launched security operation to hunt down the perpetrators of the attack.
Nobody was arrested in connection with the latest killing of the commander.
The combined security forces in Galkayo from South and North parts of the town were tasked to oversee the implementation of the Galkayo Ceasefire Agreement and beef up the security of the town.
The forces who have been in charge of the security of the town were lauded for security improvements in the town.
Galkayo is divided into two zones, where the northern portion forms part of Puntland state, while the Galmudug administration governs its southern part.
