BEIJING ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The Peoples Republic of China has expressed its strong opposition to growing ties between Somaliland and Taiwan.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday said it firmly rejects any form of official contact between the Taiwan region and Somaliland.
“There is only one China in the world and the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of China’s territory.” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a daily press briefing.
“The One-China principle is a globally acknowledged norm of international relations and has widespread agreement within the international community, Zhao added.
Beijing said any attempt by Taiwan to seek recognition as an independent state will fail.
“Any attempts by Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to split China is doomed to failure.” Said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian
Taiwan officially opened a representative office in Hargeisa, the capital of the self-declared state on Monday.
