Puntland state leader, Abdiweli Ali Gaas on Wednesday sacked region’s two top security officials.
The security forces of Puntland state are on high alert following intelligence reports of an imminent Al-Shabaab attack.
In a presidential decree with Ref: Lr. 17 June 13, 2018, Gaas has dismissed the directors of Puntland Intelligence Agency (PIA) and the Security forces of Puntland State of Somalia (PSS), Abdirisack Ise Hussein and Abdullahi Adam Mohamed respectively.
The President did not appoint individuals for the posts vacated by the officials who were relieved of their duties.
No reasons have been given for the dismissal of the two officials.
The sacking comes hours after Puntland Police warned against Al-Shabaab attack in Garowe town.
Puntland police Chief, Farah Abdirahman Warsame said the group is plotting attacks in Garowe town.
Warsame noted that credible intelligence confirmed the group plans to attack Puntland state with Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED).
“We have credible intelligence suggesting that the group is planning to carry out further attacks in the Garowe town, we stepped up security checkpoints across the town,” he said.
He assured the public of tight security saying that the security forces are closely monitoring activities across the town in order to thwart any imminent attack.
The group has in the past carried out attacks in Puntland towns and military barracks.
Early this month, heavily armed Al-Shabab fighters stormed a military base in Bali-Khadar town manned by Puntland forces.
