MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military official said at least three soldiers were killed and several others sustained injuries after bomb went off at a checkpoint outside Somali capital.
Speaking the media, the official who declined to be named said the blast happened Thursday morning in Lafole town, some 22 kilometers (13 miles) southwest of Mogadishu.
Unspecified number of civilian have also been injured in the attack.
“At least three soldiers have died and several more injured people, including soldiers and civilians, have been shifted to a hospital in Mogadishu,” he said.
In a statement posted on its affiliate online media, al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack saying over five soldiers were killed in the blast.
The group which became following military operations by SNA, now opted to carry out hit and run on military base in South and central Somalia.
Despite joint anti-terror operations by SNA, AMISOM and US military, Al-Shabaab still controls number villages in southern Somalia.
