The administration of Benadir region has called the public to get prepared for the celebration of Somalia’s independence week is less than a week away.
The independence week starts on 26th June, the flag day of Somalia marking the first hoisting of the flag of the independent Republic of Somalia on 26 June 1960.
The mayor of Mogadishu chaired a meeting that convened all the district commissioners in Benadir region, the officials had lengthy discussions on how to get ready for the commemoration of the independence days.
Salah Hassan Omar, the director of social services of Benadir region told the media that the owners of business premises along the main roads in the capital were directed to paint and beatify their houses and shops during these important events.
The residents were also asked to hoist the flag of the republic at their premises during the week of independence.
Benadir regional administration normally decorates the main streets in the capital with flag of the republic to show and teach the values of the independence days to the public.
26 June was the first day Somali flag was raised in Hargeisa Town, the current city of breakaway Somaliland.
The July 1 holiday commemorates the day Somalia declared independence from Italian colonizers and the union of Northern and Southern Somalia into the republic of Somalia.
