MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed-Kheir Abdi receives a copy of the credentials of the new Ambassador of Australia to Somalia, Ms. Alison Chartres.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries as well as the latest developments on the regional and international arenas in which Somali and Australian diplomats also attended the reception.
Australia’s diplomatic representation to Somalia is from the High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya. Somalia has an Honorary Consul resident in Melbourne.
Australia provided $10.5 million in humanitarian assistance for Somalia in 2018-19, which builds on past financial and logistical support to AMISOM, and support for counter-piracy efforts, state-building and resilience building.
They are significant Somali diaspora that lives, study and work in Australia since the breakout of the civil war in Somalia in the early 1990s.
