MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The African Union Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira has lauded the joint AMISOM and Somali National Army operation that led to the capture of Sabid town on Monday.
The troops captured a significant and strategic bridge town of Sabiid from the control of the armed group al-Shabaab.
“The control of such strategic areas will deny the enemy the freedom to continue to terrorise Somali populations, ” Ambassador Francisco Madeira said in a press statement sent to the newsrooms.
“This operation is a concrete delivery in the implementation of the Somali Transition Plan. In enhanced joint operations between AMISOM and SNA,” he added.
On his part, The AMISOM Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Tigabu Yilma Wondimhunegn said the move marks an important part of the implementation of the revised AMISOM Concept of Operations (CONOPS).
Sabiid town, situated in Lower Shabelle region, is located in a strategic bridge that links to other parts of the region.
