MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Chief finance controller of Al-Shabaab and head of the Zakat tax collection was killed in Lower Shabelle region, AU said.
In tweet posts, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said its forces killed the leader in an ambush on Monday on an al-Shabaab meeting in Bariire village.
The AU force says another seven al-Shabaab fighters were killed on Sunday when their attack on a forward operating base was “botched.”
The multinational force in the coming years is expected to draw down and hand over responsibility for Somalia’s security to the country’s military.
