MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – African Union (AU) has condemned the simultaneous bomb attacks, which occurred in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The bombings which occurred on Friday and Saturday were claimed by Al-Shabaab fighters.
In a statement, Francisco Madeira, the AU Special Representative for Somalia said the attacks will deter the ongoing peacebuilding and the Horn Africa’s nation’s process to recover from the instability.
“These senseless, heinous attacks by Al-Shabaab will not change the course of progress happening in Somalia,” he said.
Madeira condoled with families of those killed in the attacks and wishes those injured a quick recovery.
Saturday morning, two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) targeted civilians and security forces, in the busy central business district.
At least 20 people were killed and dozens wounded in the blasts.
Those killed include staffers from the London-based Universal TV station, including prominent journalist Awil Dahir Salad.
