MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (Atmis) expressed his deep regret over accidental shooting of a civilian in Mogadishu.
The shooting incident involved one of Atmis soldiers from the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) at Ceelgaabta junction.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident happened after an unidentified person hurled a suspicious object at one of the ATMIS trucks.
The Mission said the person later attempted to mount the truck prompting a response from ATMIS soldiers who were escorting the vehicle.
Atmis called for calm as investigations into the killing of the man continue, saying the findings will be shared with the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
The mission said it commits to protecting the lives of civilians and will continue to uphold and respect the rights of all Somali citizens as prescribed in its mandate and to support the FGS in ensuring a peaceful and stable Somalia.
