DHOBLEY ( HALBEEG NEWS) – AMISOM soldiers from the Kenyan Defense forces based in sector two, Dhobley town have used their spare time to put into practice their skills by making convertible seats and tables from waste wood and metals to be used by soldiers and locals.
The soldiers used scrap metal and wood from waste to build useable from unusable materials which the aim of conserving the environment.
According to AMISOM sector II commander Brig. Paul Njema, the equipment maintenance section of KDF made more than 60 desks to be donated to a school in Hosingow and others will follow soon as part of support to boost education sector.
“We are soon going to be delivering to a school in Hosingow so far we have constructed 60 of them complete for three classes out of what these whatever would have otherwise thrown but have been able to do these out of their spare time.
Major Jesse Njoroge, the officer commanding maintenance in AMISOM sector urged his fellow comrades with various skills to take advantage and put into practice to support the local community.
“During our spare time we like to encourage soldiers who have unique skills to try and bring those skills to practice. In line with what we have seen of the convertible chair we also have desks, we also drum seats and various other innovations that the soldiers in these sector and other sub-sectors fabricate so that we can also add value not only to the soldiers and base but also to civilians within Somalia and outside Somalia.”
