Somali National Army and AMISOM troops are planning to carry out offensives aimed opening and securing the main road linking Mogadishu and Baidoa blocked by Al-shabab fighters.
Wilson Rono, AMISOM officer who briefed the media today said that Al-shabab fighters put all their efforts to block the roads linking the main towns after they lost control of their strongholds.
Rono stated that the joint forces will take every step possible to end Al-shabab’s threat at the main roads so as to ensure safe movement of people and promote easy access of these areas and delivery of goods.
Mr. Rono underlined that they [ AMISOM ] are mandated to open up the roads and clear the main supply routes blocked by militias and the rebels against the government.
Apart from facilitating free movement of people, the residents believe that this significant move also opens up the key supply routes and allow the provision of humanitarian aid to the drought people in these areas.
