MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A Mogadishu based organisation which has been providing free ambulance services to the city residents for over 12 years is on the verge of closing down following financial troubles.
Aamin Ambulance which is a privately owned company was founded in 2006 with a single ambulance.
In a statement, Abdulkadir Abdirahman Adam, the founder and the director of the ambulance said a staffing shortage and an inability to cover costs.
“We have been providing this voluntary service for 12 years with the help of friends and other generous individuals in private business, but now the responsibility is greater than our ability,” Adam said.
The organisation had provided services to over 30,000 individuals since its inception.
“For its 12 years in operation, Amin Ambulance provided emergency assistance to 31,704 people,” he stated.
According to Dr. Adan, the organisation with 16 vehicles is now facing financial problems including being unable to pay the rent premises and garage fees.
Aamin Ambulance maintains the only Mogadishu call center with a 24-hour emergency helpline.
